Kait has a job to do. As the woman in charge of personnel issues for the mission board, Kait always finds herself being the bearer of bad news. When she gets word that she’s being sent to southern Africa to force two missionaries into retirement, she readies herself for more of the same and estimates that it will only take her a month to get in, get out, and get on with her life. But when she arrives, she discovers that the mission board doesn’t know half of what’s been going on in southern Africa. Life changes for personnel, immigration problems, and an increasing need for missionaries on the field challenge the way Kait looks at her assignment, as does the predicament that one member of the team, Pieter Botha, finds himself in with so many difficulties ahead. As she walks through it all with him, she’s torn between doing what she’s always done and trusting God for whatever might happen, from here on out…

This was a really sweet romantic comedy with fun and strong heroine, and a hot hero who wants to serve Christ in south Africa.
Wonder how close this is to the problems faced by some missionaries when they don't fit the mold of younger people; when finances seem better spent where there is more potential return on the dollars spent? Does Ms. Caulk tell it like it is where denominations run the missions boards. Well written with potential real life people and not your typically sweet chick flick story.I
This is a love story, more than a romance; it's a story of loving service, though the traditional mission work may limit the reading audience. The story is well written and if the world the author creates seems not something you can relate to, the subject of change is something that we all can understand.
A revealing look at the administrative side of foreign missions wrapped around a unique love story. I liked seeing Kait grow in her faith and show a softer side without completely changing and it was great seeing the difference in Piet since he appeared in A New Tune. This did kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth in regard to mission boards and I wondered how disconnected they are from the day to day activities of the missionaries they support, but the story itself was a great example of how God can take the plans we have for ourselves and turn them on their heads. I especially loved how it ended. Another great read by Jenn Faulk.
I liked this story to a point. I loved all the characters and loved how this book reinspired my love for missions and of daily denying myself to follow Christ and serve others. I did not like Kait's job or the mission board. I sincerely hope and pray that it is not really like that in real life. I've read several of her books dealing with this anonymous "board" and "convention" and that part of these books has left a bad taste in my mouth every single time. I've grown up in the church, and know without a doubt it is filled with flawed people trying to live this Christian life the best they can. But if I was a non Christian reading these books, seeing how the leadership acts and the denomination is run, I most definitely would not want to touch this "religion" with a ten foot pole. It hurt my heart to see the callous way lifelong missionaries who faithfully served were treated. I can understand the numbers game, but how far away from Christ we are when we can't justify allocating funds to keep these ministies going bc the missionaries are too "old". Who are we to force someone called by God into retirement. Makes me greatful that the mission board my denomination works with relys on the missionaries to raise their own funds by getting suport from churches and individuals. Instead of dictacting how much, who and when a person can serve and basically playing God. The board in this story is no better than the corporate world who "fires" a lifelong employee before they can reach retirement age to get full benfits all To hire younger and cheaper labour. Made me sick to my stomach. Anyway, if you can overlook all of that, it's worth the read for the first things I mentioned. I will probably avoid any of her other books that deal with the characters involved in the board/convention.
Once again, Jenn Faulk grabs me from the first page as she weaves this story! Couldn't put it down! Loved every page!
I loved this book. The way the characters develop and learn to trust, is awesome. I can't wait to read the next story.
Loved reading story set in Africa, great plot based on issues that are real to life.
